Biodegradable Plastic Drop Cloth

Home renovations can be messy and hard on your floors. We’re installing American Clay in our bedroom and we needed a way to protect our 100 year old hardwood floors from getting destroyed. American Clay is extremely easy to clean, but can be very dusty. I wanted to find an alternative to the plastic drop cloths that everyone uses for 1 hour, then throws away. In our case we used an old tarp that we reuse over and over for these types of projects. Here are a couple of other options we found.

1. A reusable canvas drop cloth is the best way to go. You might pay a bit more money, but think of how many projects you can use it for.

2. The other option I found was a new product called EcoDrop™. Its a biodegradable plastic drop cloth. It’s 2 mil thick so its nice and heavy and won’t tear. The green color allows you to see where paint and other messes are. As stated on their package, it degrades within 1-2 years when discarded in a landfill. It will biodegrade if its in the presence of microorganisms, moisture and oxygen when in soil.
